Monochrome

Whilst I do have Adobe Photoshop I have to admit I don't do an awful lot with it, except to convert images to black and white. I do the odd bit of cropping, brightening, and improving contrast, but that's about it. I took this picture because I loved the patterns on the guys board, and was already planning to convert it to monochrome. This was a good thing, because when I looked at it when I got home I was disappointed with the colour version. It was overexposed and the sky and beach were colourless and uninteresting. However, I felt that once I converted it to black and white in Photoshop, and increased the contrast a bit, I loved it. Again, I like the fact that the reflection on the sand adds so much interest to the foreground of the image, and I love the focus being the man with his board, which has enough pattern on it to make something of the image.

I've printed this out big at home, and I love it for it's simplicity. Which just shows that maybe some images can be saved!

Perfect shot for converting to B&W. Simple yet with plenty of pattern and texture and a reflection too. Fab.
